Sunday 18th May

Yesterday the Bowland birders had seen a Dipper on the River Sorn at The Woolen Mill and down at Loch Skerrols, they saw an Otter as well as a Long tailed Tit. Over at Ballimony, a male Hen Harrier was present and also while going past Loch Tallant in the evening they had 3 Woodcock roding. This evening we had a quick spin round Loch Gorm after tea. On the sown field past the Coastguards towards Coull there was a large mixed flock of Ringed Plover and Dunlin, 13 Greylags while in the next field along the road but on the right hand side, there were a good number of Lapwings along with at least 17 young, it is no wonder they get predated so easily as the adult birds were not paying much attention to their bairns! Going round the loch, a good number of Wheatears were noted, the Mute Swan is still sitting tight on her nest down on the wee lochans and then in another reseed at Rockside 47 Greylags! Finally coming home at the reedbed the Sedge Warbler was seen and heard, and by magic the Corncrake there had to chip his piece in as well, boy is he close to the road!!! Forgot to mention last night that Liz Hathaway had seen a Greylag with 6 young goslings down close to Loch Gorm yesterday morning.
